Tennessee driver centers to cut waits

Teresa Sloan shares a typical tale about how hard it is to get a driver's license.

A long drive across Nashville. A 20-minute wait to speak with an attendant. Then, to be told to come back tomorrow.

"She told me she didn't have time to service me because they had to enter that into the computer," Sloan recalled the next morning. "We had gotten there an hour and a half before they closed. ... And I chose that location because they were open later."

Countless Tennesseans could have told a similar story. Long lines, multiple waits, erratic hours, confusing documentation requirements and, at the end of it all, an unflattering photo.
