Dan Hicks, the information officer the for Tennessee Wildlife Resource AgencyState wildlife officials say the cause of death in a Cleveland woman's fatal boat accident Wednesday was due to striking her head on a concrete pillar.
Misty Thompson and the driver of the boat, Deontae Davis, both 32, were on the Hiwassee River near the Charleston boat ramp when the accident happened about 7:38 p.m. Wednesday, according to authorities.
"They determined the vessel struck a concrete walkway pillar ... out to one of those moorings they tie the large barges to," Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency spokesman Dan Hicks said.
"The vessel struck that, and as a result, she struck that concrete pillar with her forehead and the blunt force trauma to the upper forehead was the cause of death," Hicks said.
Davis was unhurt.
Authorities ruled out foul play and no other charges have been filed yet, "but there could be other charges pending the outcome of the investigation," he said.
A toxicology report on Davis is pending, he said.
"It's going to be several weeks before we get information back on the blood," Hicks said.
Bradley County Emergency Management Agency spokesman Stan Clark said Thursday that Thompson was found in the boat.
