NASHVILLE, N.C. - Emergency officials in Nash County said a man was crushed to death outside his home by a large limb blown down during high winds from Hurricane Irene.
Nash County Emergency Management Director Brian Brantley said the man was walking outside his home in a rural area of the county around 10:20 a.m. Saturday when the limb struck him.
The outer bands of Irene were lashing the area, and a wind gust of 63 mph was reported at a nearby airport at about the same time.
Brantley says more details, including the man's name and age, will be released later.
The state Division of Emergency Management says an Onslow County man died from a heart attack while putting plywood over his windows.
