A worker picks up debris next to a tree scarred from car's impact early Sunday. Chattanooga police said speed and alcohol contributed to a fatal crash on Tennessee Avenue in St. Elmo. The Chevy Camaro hit several trees, a parked car and a house. Passenger James M. Travillian, 23, was thrown from the car and died at the scene. Driver Robert Atwood, 21, was treated and released at a local hospital.

Chattanooga Police say one person was killed and another injured in a wreck in St. Elmo this morning at about the same time as officers responded to a "shots fired" call in the same area.

Police say a car ran off the road in the 4200 block of Tennessee Avenue around 5 a.m. The male passenger died, dispatchers said. No information was available on the driver this afternoon, and police dispatchers would not say if the crash and reported shooting are related.
