POLL: Should Mayor Ron Littlefield fight the recall efforts?

Attorneys for Mayor Ron Littlefield filed a second lawsuit this morning in Circuit Court to stop any potential recall election from occurring.

Hal North, Littlefield's attorney, said he is asking for a temporary injunction hearing before Jan. 6, the pickup date for qualifying petitions for any potential mayoral candidates.

North filed the suit against the Hamilton County Election Commission. The commission certified recall petitions last month and set a recall election date for August 2012. The commission's action took place a month after the Tennessee Court of Appeals ruled a Circuit Court judge's ruling was wrong by not allowing the commission a chance to certify the recall petitions.

Circuit Court Judge Jeff Hollingsworth threw out the recall effort, saying the recall groups did not have enough signatures under state law.

He made his ruling October 2010 after three recall groups spent the entire summer collecting more than 15,000 signatures.
