Red Bank duplex fire leaves two families homeless

Two families are homeless this afternoon after a fire caused extensive damage to their duplex, officials say.

Red Bank Fire Department responded to a call about 2:45 p.m. at 100 Vreeland St., according to a press release from Hamilton County Emergency Services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell.

Upon arrival, they found smoke pouring from the eaves and roof vents.

Firefighters found the fire in a bedroom and, while it was extinguished within minutes, significant smoke and heat damage already had occurred throughout the duplex, said Maxwell.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Red Bank Fire Department, she said.

No injuries were reported but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries, Maxwell said.
