KNOXVILLE - Safety Janzen Jackson has withdrawn from the University of Tennessee due to personal reasons, UT officials confirmed Monday night.
Jackson, considered the Volunteers' best defensive player, missed most of the practices in December leading up to the Music City Bowl for personal reasons as well. His future with the program is uncertain.
"We are continuing to support Janzen as he addresses his personal issues during this temporary withdrawal from school," UT coach Derek Dooley said in a release. "While he would still be eligible to compete if he enrolls this fall, nothing is more important than Janzen's well-being."
Jackson's withdrawal wasn't the only roster move from Monday night. Center Cody Pope (medical), defensive back Ted Meline (personal reasons) and linebacker Jerod Askew (violation of team rules) are no longer with the program. Cornerback Art Evans, who was suspended at the end of last season, is back with the team.
