DUNLAP, Tenn. - Prosecutors said this morning that Susan L. Baker fired the shot that killed Clifford M. Carden Jr. sometime Feb. 2 or 3 in a robbery.
A man collecting cans found Carden's body in the Sequatchie River on Feb. 3. His burned car was found 10 miles away.
Baker and Thomas Bryan Bettis are charged with felony murder, especially aggravated robbery and setting fire to personal property.
Sequatchie General Sessions Judge L. Thomas Austin ordered Baker and Bettis held without bond until a preliminary hearing set for 1:30 Feb. 23. He appointed attorneys to represent them.
Baker has been described as Carden's former girlfriend, but prosecutors have said they don't think that was connected to the slaying.
