The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has hired former North Carolina assistant Travis Filar as its new volleyball coach.
Athletics director Rick Hart will discuss the national search later this afternoon.
Filar graduated from Furman in 2000, became a volunteer assistant at Kentucky for two seasons, then became an assistant for two years at Memphis before moving to Chapel Hill, N.C.
"This is the right move for my family and I as Chattanooga is a perfect place for me to start my head coaching career with a university and city that is family oriented," Filar said in a release. "We could not be more excited about this opportunity, and I am truly looking forward to working with the current team and leading a volleyball program that seeks comprehensive excellence; academically, athletically and socially."
Filar takes over for Lisa Rhodes who resigned at the end of last season.
