McDonald advances on "Idol," Suddeth awaits fate

"American Idol" contestant Paul McDonald, whose mother Susan teaches at UTC, vaulted into the Top 24 Wednesday night.

Meanwhile fans of Lauren Alaina Suddeth, of Rossville, Ga., will have to wait another day to learn if the 16-year-old will advance, too.

The judges on the popular Fox series liked McDonald's version of the Beatles "Blackbird." They called his voice "unique" and "beautiful." McDonald lives in Nashville.

Suddeth was part of a trio that sang "Hello Goodbye" from the Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour" album. The judges praised her effort but noted that the song was perhaps not well suited to her voice.

This week field will be cut from 61 to 24 contestants.
