NASHVILLE - Republicans on the Senate Education Committee today approved a bill stripping the Tennessee Education Association of its ability to name four trustees to the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement Board.
The measure passed 6-3 on a straight Republican/Democrat party line vote.
The bill, one of several Republicans are pushing in an attack against the teachers' union, transfers the authority of the organization to appoint three teacher members to the board.
The measure now goes to the Senate floor. It has not started moving in the House.
