Bradley future looks bright

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Bradley County's future has never looked brighter but it still needs to get through the recession "on a fixed income,'' County Mayor D. Gary Davis said today.

With two years of blockbuster industrial announcements from Wacker Chemical, Whirlpool, Olin and others, it might escape notice that those world corporations could have located, or re-located, anywhere in the world, Davis told MainStreet Cleveland.

Add Amazon and Volkswagen and Southeast Tennessee is a hot industrial location, Davis said.

"There are really no city and county lines when we talk about industrial recruiting,'' Davis said.

"The challenge is how do we do the things we need to do; plan the things we need to plan and do it on a fixed income?'' he said.

Growth will continue to be steady but accelerated, the mayor said, creating growing pains.

"But that's a good thing,'' Davis said. "We could be like some other counties, or surrounding states, and crying our eyes out over things a lot worse than growing pains.''
