Charge to be filed in deadly Houston daycare fire

HOUSTON - Prosecutors say they plan to file a charge against a woman who ran a Houston home daycare center where a deadly blaze last week killed four children.

Harris County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Donna Hawkins said Sunday that Jessica Tata will be charged with reckless injury to a child involving serious bodily injury.

Hawkins didn't know if the 22-year-old operator of Jackie's Child Care had been arrested Sunday.

If convicted, Tata would face from two to 10 years in prison. Hawkins declined to say if additional charges would be filed.

Investigators have been examining whether seven preschoolers in the daycare center at the time of the fire may have been left alone there.

The blaze also injured four children, with two of them still hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
