Snow doesn't interrupt power supply

Today's snowstorm hasn't caused any power outages in the Chattanooga area so far, EPB spokeswoman Lacie Newton said about 11 a.m. today.

EPB placed chains on all its trucks and stationed response crews late Sunday on both Lookout Mountain and Signal Mountain in anticipation of the winter storm, she said.

"The snow so far has been pretty dry and we have no weather-related power outages to report from last night or this morning," Newton said.

Melting snow and the prospect of ice on power lines could cause problems this week, but so far neither EPB nor the Tennessee Valley Authority have suffered any downed power lines.

"No problems have been reported on the TVA system," TVA spokeswoman Barbara Martocci said.

TVA supplies power to nearly 8 million persons in seven Southeastern states.

EPB is operating its branch offices in Hixson, downtown and Brainerd as usual "and our customer-service representatives are in place, answering customer calls," Newton said.

If EPB customers experience a power outage, they are urged to call 423-648-1372 or report it online at http://www.epb.net/outages.
