Officials announce Navy Week in Chattanooga

The Chief of Naval Operations announced today the schedule for the 2011 Navy Week in Chattanooga.

The Navy conducts about 20 such events each year across the country, according to the release.

"Our outreach throughout the years helps all Americans better understand the value of their Navy and the service of the men and women of our country who are sailors," Adm. Gary Roughead said in the release.

Scheduled for June 11-19, the event will include a performance by the "Leap Frogs" the service's parachute team, a visit from the sailors of the USS Tennessee, Navy Band performances, Navy diver demonstrations in local aquariums, simulators and interactive displays and visits to area schools.

Also selected for this year's Navy weeks: Tampa Bay, Fla., Austin, Texas, Dallas, Denver, New Orleans, Chicago, Rochester, N.Y., Detriot, Fargo, N.D. Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Omaha, Neb., New England, Albuquerque, N.M., El Paso, and San Antonio, Texas.
