Northeast Alabama may get several inches of snow, Chattanooga to see less

By tomorrow morning, the rain in Tennessee Valley should change over to snow, but the soggy ground should prevent any of it from piling up, meteorologists say.

"Its very rare to see accumulation after a thorough rain like the one we've had this week," said Paul Barys, lead meteorologist with WRCB-TV. Barys said the most the Chattanooga area should expect is an inch - if that.

Barys also said locals shouldn't worry too much about area roads freezing over tonight, as temperatures will stay around 36 degrees, with 32-33 degrees in higher elevations.

Northeast Alabama, however, has been issued a winter storm watch in effect through Wednesday morning, according to The Associated Press. The reports says cities like Fort Payne, Guntersville and Scottsboro could see 2 to 4 inches of accumulation. Florence and Huntsville are forecast for 1 to 4 inches. Hamilton, Jasper and Gadsden could see 1 to 2 inches, and Birmingham could see an inch.

North Georgia will probably receive a "light dusting," said Barys, with 1 to 2 inches in higher elevations. "But I don't think this is going to be a big one," Barys said.
