Jessie's Coiffures Beauty and Barber Salon will host a grand opening celebration July 10 in the business' new location on Wilcox Boulevard to welcome new and returning clients.
"I decided to move to a more visible location," said Emery Cooper, who co-owns the salon with her husband, Gary. "I'm inviting everyone to come in and get a feel for the new place."
During the celebration from 4 to 6 p.m., there will be hors d'oeuvres and a gift basket door prize to give away.
Jessie's moved to its new location at 3883 Wilcox Blvd. after spending 17 years on East Main Street. Compared to the former location, Cooper said she feels like she has room to spread out in her new salon.
She decided to design the interior so that clients can rest and relax before, during and after their appointments without feeling rushed. There are five styling stations, two barber stations, a sitting area and a separate room for washing hair.
"I am excited about the transition," said Cooper, who is hoping to hire a nail tech to round out the services available for her clients.
Cooper went to Precision Hair School after graduating from high school in 1982, following her mother, Jessie Phipps-Copland, into the family business.
She said her mother graduated from the Madam C. J. Walker beauty school in the 1930s.
"The name of the business has been in existence for 64 years," Cooper said. "I decided to take over after my mom retired a few years ago. She laid the foundation for me and now I am trying to elevate it and bring it to a new level."
