LaFayette man charged after two-hour standoff with police

A LaFayette, Ga., man is in custody after he was involved in a two-hour standoff with police Tuesday night.

Freddie Lowe was arrested after a LaFayette police negotiator talked him into handing over the gun that he was threatening to use to shoot his wife, his 17-year-old son and himself, said Sgt. Darin Kelley.

Lowe has been charged with multiple charges, including three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of terrorist threats, pointing or aiming a gun at another and cruelty to children in the third degree.

Police received the call about 11 p.m. from the house, located off Wind Song Road, Kelley said. Authorities allowed the negotiator to talk Lowe out of shooting anyone and walk outside, he said.
