The Southern Conference football coaches' preseason poll was released today and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga was picked to finish fourth this season.
In addition, the coaches' preseason all-conference teams were released and wide receiver Joel Bradford and linebacker Ryan Consiglio made the first team.
Quarterback B.J. Coleman, right tackle Adam Miller, defensive tackle Nick Davison, safety Chris Lewis-Harris and cornerback Kadeem Wise made the second team.
For the sixth year in a row Appalachian State was picked to win the league, receiving one point more (60) than Georgia Southern (59). Wofford was picked third with 49 points and UTC (45) was close behind. The Mocs received one first-place vote and it didn't come from Russ Huesman because coaches aren't allowed to vote for their own team.
The Mountaineers and Terriers shared the league title last season, while Georgia Southern reached the semifinals of the FCS playoffs.
Wofford fullback Eric Breitenstein was the preseason pick for Offensive Player of the Year and Georgia Southern defensive tackle Brent Russell and Wofford defensive end Ameet Pall split the voting for Defensive Player of the Year.
