A 27-year-old Soddy-Daisy man faces federal charges in connection with the robbery of El Metate Mexican restaurant.
A federal grand jury incited Joshua Young on three counts Tuesday. The indictment alleges Young, a convicted felon, went into the restaurant on April 30 with a firearm and stole money.
Young cannot possess a firearm as a convicted felon, the restaurant engages in interstate commerce, allowing this type of robbery to fall under federal jurisdiction.
If convicted he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
"Persons with felony records, who brandish guns to commit robberies are some of the most dangerous in our society," said U.S. Attorney Bill Killian.
Young has not been arraigned on the charges.
