Marty DerlakDAYTON, Tenn. - The director of Rhea County's centralized maintenance department is out of a job as of July 1, and the county will begin a search for a replacement.
Maintenance Director Marty Derlak was called forward at Wednesday's county finance committee meeting and asked whether he had announced his resignation as of July 31 at the previous day's joint meeting between the county commission and the school board.
After Derlak said he might change his mind and stay on, committee Vice Chairman Tommy Snyder asked for his resignation as of July 1 and made a motion to begin advertising for a replacement.
Derlak declined to discuss the issue after the meeting.
Last year, county commissioners questioned invoices that Derlak had submitted for the maintenance department. And earlier this year, Schools Director Jerry Levengood told commissioners and school board members he couldn't explain more than $13,000 in maintenance spending because the work orders weren't filled out properly.
