The Pet Company closes in Hamilton Place

A store at Hamilton Place mall involved last year in controversy last year over inhumane conditions for animals,has closed, a mall spokeswoman said today.

The Pet Company closed Thursday, mall spokeswoman Catherine Wells aid today.

She said she could not give reasons for the closure because of privacy laws.

McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center took 82 animals from the Pet Company store last year after a state inspector and local animal welfare officials reacted to complaints of the animals' conditions.

A judge later threw out animal cruelty charges against the store.
