A 70-year-old man showed up at Parkridge Medical Center around 6:30 PM today suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach, according to Chattanooga police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.
He told police that he'd been shot at 2000 Bennett Ave.
When questioned about the shooting and the suspects, he told police that he'd just left work at the Tennessee Aquarium and saw that traffic on the interstate was backed up so he decided to take a bypass through the city.
Somewhere along Bennett Avenue he came upon two parties who flagged him down, Weary said. They opened his car door and when he attempted to pull off, one of them shot him in the stomach, she said. He was able to get away and drive himself to Parkridge but was transferred to Erlanger hospital for treatment.
He is being treated for a nonlife-threatening injury to the abdomen, Weary said.
Police don't have any suspect information and details of the incident are still being obtained, Weary said.
