Police seek straying couple

An elderly couple who wandered away from Fayetteville, Tenn., on Friday has been spotted in Chattanooga somewhere north of Eastgate Town Center.

Authorities in Lincoln County, Tenn., are looking for Ernest and Dorothy Carroll, whom they believe drove away from their home Thursday.

Sherry Curry with the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office said a sighting was reported somewhere north of Cornelison Road, which parallels Interstate 75 behind the Eastgate area.

Curry said earlier the couple had been spotted Friday in the Kimball-South Pittsburg area.

The Carrolls asked a truck driver for directions to Fayetteville about 3 p.m. CDT Friday near South Pittsburg, Curry said.

The trucker helped get them a meal and a motel room, she said.

Curry said the couple's son got a call Thursday from a deputy in Hickman County, Tenn., who had run across them there and got them checked into a motel.

"They got up Friday morning and took off again," she said.

She said the trucker reported Ernest, 87, and Dorothy, 86, seemed in good shape.

They are driving a 2002 Saturn, a blue four-door with Tennessee license 154-LFX.

Anyone who spots the couple is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at 931-433-9821.
