Cleveland schools discuss swim center

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - A proposed swim center is back before the Cleveland Board of Education.

Cleveland High School swim coach Tim Davis spoke to the board Monday about using the former Tennessee National Guard property behind the Teen Learning Center or the vacant, former American Uniform property on Parker Street.

Davis asked the school board to approve a plan so it can be brought before the City Council before the next city budget is decided.

"I'm proposing this as a fully funded proposal,'' Davis told the Board. Lee University and a private physical therapy company have agreed to use the facility, providing revenue, he said.

The problem, board members said, is the city will want a firm commitment from the financial partners first and the partners will want a city commitment first.

The Board meets Wednesday for its budget decisions and members plan to vote whether to present one of the plans to the City Council on Monday.
