Jurors this morning saw photos of the dead body of a 42-year-old man killed at a Kanku's gas station last year when a stray bullet tore into his neck.
In photographs, Jonathan Lawrence lies facedown, a few feet from a gas pump.
In Hamilton County Criminal Court, Chattanooga police Officer Ken Burnette told Executive Assistant District Attorney Neal Pinkston that, when emergency medical workers rolled the body over, Lawrence's hands were still in his pockets.
Police allege that Montez Davis, 20, entered the parking lot at 3440 Wilcox Blvd. on the night of Jan. 9, 2010, drove about 30 yards to the end of the lot, stopped the car, got out and began firing a .40-caliber Glock handgun at the crowd..
He was angry, prosecutors say, because someone in the lot had thrown a bottle that shattered the back window of the rented white Jeep Patriot he was driving.
On of the slugs struck Lawrence in the throat as he pumped gas.
Prosecutors called Chattanooga police officers who investigated the shooting all morning today, the second day of the trial.
