Montez Davis, 20, is visibly upset as a court officer approaches him Friday after a jury convicted him of second-degree murder. The trial began on Tuesday.

Montez Davis was found guilty of second-degree murder this afternoon. He faces a possible 25-year sentence.

Davis was convicted of shooting Jonathan Lawrence in the throat on Jan. 9, 2010, at the Kanku's gas station on Wilcox Boulevard.

Police and prosecutors said Davis drove through the parking lot of the station at 3440 Wilcox Blvd. and someone threw a bottle through the back window of his vehicle. He drove to the end of the lot, got out of the Jeep Patriot and opened fire with a .40-caliber Glock handgun on the crowd outside the store, prosecutors said.

One of the slugs struck Lawrence in the throat as he pumped gas, killing him.

Davis' mother testified Thursday that her son had been regularly harassed by members of the Bloods gang, and Davis testified he was trying to shoot at Bloods gang members.
