TVA to trim power bills in April

Electricity users will get a price break as springtime temperatures return to the Tennessee Valley next month.

The Tennessee Valley Authority announced today that electricity charges will drop 1.2 percent in April due to a change in the way TVA calculates its monthly fuel cost adjustment. TVA spokesman Scott Brooks said the change will save the typical household somewhere between 50 cents and $2 a month.

Effective with its April billings, TVA is changing its fuel cost adjustments each month to recover all of its monthly fuel cost, not just the variance from what the utility projected in its base rates. The change doesn't bring in any more or less money for TVA, Brooks said.

Despite the April price break, the price of TVA power will still be up by more than 11 percent in April, 2011 compared to what it was in April 2010, according to TVA figures.
