A 9-month-old boy suffered burns to the face during a fire at Missionary Heights Apartments, according to a release from Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner.
When firefighters entered the two-story apartment at 517 Latimore St., they found the fire in the kitchen and were able to get the blaze under control. The rest of the apartment unit had smoke and water damage, Garner said.
Eyewitnesses told firefghters that the boy was burned in the fire and was taken to a neighboring apartment.
The firefighters located the baby, along with his mother and a 2-year-old child. The baby was transported by Hamilton County EMS to T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital.
The condition of the baby was still being assessed, Garner reported. The mother and the other child did not appear to suffer any injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Garner said.
