Bill Hullander

Hamilton County Trustee Bill Hullander today sent a letter to Rep. Gerald McCormick asking him to obtain an expedited opinion from the attorney general on the correct amount he should charge cities in Hamilton County for collecting their sales taxes once the revenue-sharing agreement ends.

Hullander said he may charge as much as 2 percent for collecting the taxes, a service performed for free under the sales tax agreement. The letter to the attorney general asks whether he can charge 2 percent or 1 percent.

"There have recently been several discussions concerning the amount of commission that I am required to charge on the receiving and disbursing of the sales tax revenue," Hullander said in a news release. "Today I have requested an attorney general's opinion on the correct amount of compensation to be charged. I have requested the expedition of the opinion and am expecting a response by the end of the May."
