Ringgold lot still holds 30 abandoned cars; curfew extended

Ringgold, Ga., officials say Wednesday is the last day for the owners of some 30 vehicles abandoned during last week's tornadoes to claim their cars at the city's central lot.

Ringgold police chief Dan Bilbrey said all the cars were taken to a centralized location at 320 Frontage Road off Alabama Highway after the storms, but that lot will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Owners will have to provide proof of identification before the vehicle will be released, he said.

Wrecker services hauling cars away must provide insurance documents and a contact number for the owner before the vehicle will be released, according to Bilbrey.

Bilbrey also announced that a 9 p.m. to daylight curfew will remain in effect in Ringgold until further notice.

"We are continuing to make efforts to keep our residents safe and the affected areas secure," he said. "A nighttime curfew is our best option to utilize our resources to strive towards those goals."
