Chattanooga: Democrat chairman lashes County Commission

May 16th, 2011 by Cliff Hightower in Local - Breaking News

Paul Smith, chairman of the Hamilton County Democratic Party, lashed out at the County Commission today, saying it needs to stop meddling with money given to county schools.

"They need to decide if they want to be a school board member or a county commissioner," Smith said during the monthly JFK Club meeting, an arm of the local Democratic party.

The County Commission has said for months it may take educational tax money from new industries coming into Hamilton County and earmark them for capital projects that would help build schools.
