April jobless rate up to 9.6 percent

Tennessee's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April was 9.6 percent, up 0.1 percent from March, officials said today.

The national unemployment rate for April was 9.0 percent, 0.2 percent higher than the March rate.

"Tennessee's unemployment rate experienced a 0.1 percentage point increase from March because of a substantial increase in the number of people looking for a job," said Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development Karla Davis.
