Atlanta's Buckhead development plan scaled down

ATLANTA - The new developers of a major project in Atlanta's Buckhead area say plans are being scaled back, with a goal of opening in 2013.

The project was announced in 2007 as the Streets of Buckhead. At that time it included condos, four hotels and 500,000 square feet of retail space.

California-based developer OliverMcMillan, took over the project this month from Atlanta developer Ben Carter.

Jeremy Meredith, development director for OliverMcMillan, says the plans now call for two 20-story apartment complexes, but no hotel, little office space and more walkable streets.

He says coffee shops will draw people in. Retail space has been cut to 300,000 square feet. Work is expected to resume by the end of the year.
