Chattanooga: Subway on 23rd Street robbed

The Subway Restaurant located at 2209 E. 23rd street was robbed just after 9 Wednesday morning, according to Chattanooga police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

A store employee told police that a dark-skinned black make dressed in all black entered the store posing as a customer. He ordered a sandwich but soon after pulled a gun on the employee and demanded she open the store safe, Weary said.

The employee tried to run out of the back of the store but was caught before she could get away, Weary said. The suspect then brought her back in to the store and again ordered her to open the safe, however, while doing so, he fired a shot into the wall, Weary said. After he got the deposit bag, the suspect fled on foot across East 23rd Street.

Police saturated the area and brought in a K-9 unit to search for the suspect but was unable to locate him, Weary said. The suspect was described as a black male about 5-foot 10-inches tall, in his mid-20s, wearing all black, dark shades and a black head wrap.

Surveillance video of the incident is under review for the investigation but if anyone has information on this incident they are asked to call the Chattanooga Police Department at 423-698-2525.
