Three area baseball teams rally in Fling

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Soddy-Daisy, Baylor and South Pittsburg rebounded from first-night losses to advance this morning while Polk County was eliminated in the Spring Fling baseball tournament.

South Pittsburg eliminated Class A foe Grace Christian 7-4 behind pitcher Hunter Giles, who got his 11th win of the year, and Jacob Toney, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs.

Polk County had an early lead but gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth in a Class AA 6-5 loss to Christian Academy of Knoxville.

Soddy-Daisy got home runs from Talon Harris and James Fowlkes - pushing each to 18 for the year - and a strong relief pitching performance from Ryan Johnson in a 9-8 win over Mt. Juliet in Class AAA.

Baylor banged out 18 hits in a 10-2 decision over Brentwood Academy in Division II with Gavin Gibson, Brandon Robertson and Zach McKelvey contributing three hits each.
