Corker tells Chattanooga audience debt debate needs real action

Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., told an audience of about 270 lawyers and judges that the current debate in Washington over spending and debt needs concrete measures to avoid future disaster.

The former Chattanooga mayor, armed with a brief slide show presentation, outlined his efforts to institute a "binding cap on all federal spending."

He called the lack of action on debt the "greatest threat to our country's sovereignty, security and economic growth."

The featured speaker at the Chattanooga Bar Association's annual Law Day event this morning, Corker drew a standing ovation from the crowd.

"I agree with him," said local attorney Jamey Hurst. "He's got a lot of insight on the most important issue that we face."
