ATHENS, Ga. - Three Georgia running backs have been suspended for Saturday's game with New Mexico State for violation of team policies, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt announced today.
Freshman Isaiah Crowell, junior Carlton Thomas and redshirt freshman Ken Malcome received one-game suspensions. Crowell leads the Bulldogs with 689 yards and three 100-yard rushing performances.
"We have certain standards in all that we do, and their actions do not reflect the Georgia way," Richt said. "They will serve their suspensions, learn a lesson and I'm sure be better men for it."
Junior Richard Samuel injured his left ankle on the final play of Saturday's 24-20 win over Florida and will miss the rest of the regular season.
The starting nod Saturday could go to redshirt sophomore Brandon Harton, who received a scholarship in August. Harton has played in just one game this season, rushing 11 times for 33 yards.
Georgia also has options with cornerbacks Brandon Boykin and Branden Smith, who have combined on eight carries for 116 yards this season.
