Two children were taken to the hospital this morning after their school bus collided with another vehicle, police said.

A witness told police that a Jeep Cherokee lost control and hit a rear axle of the the bus, Chattanooga Police spokeswoman Jerri Weary said in a news release. The accident took place near the 4900 block of New York Avenue while the Jeep was trying to negotiate a curve.

The children who were taken to the hospital said they had hit their heads, but there were not any apparent physical injuries to anyone in the vehicles, Weary said.

The Jeep's driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions and for not having insurance, Weary said.

Weather is believed to be a factor, but not necessarily the primary factor, of the crash, Weary said.
