A German newspaper today reported that Volkswagen is making plans to bolster production at its Chattanooga plant with a new sport utility vehicle.

The vehicle would have three rows of seats and offer more room than its Tiguan SUV, according to Financial Times Deutschland. The vehicle would be cheaper than its larger Touareg SUV, and the launch would be scheduled for 2015, it said.

The newspaper said Jonathan Browning, Volkswagen of America's chief executive, did not confirm the plan at the Los Angeles Auto Show which he is attending. But, he said such a model would fit well in the U.S. market and the VW brand, according to the report.

The plant currently produces the all-new Passat midsize sedan.
