Chattanooga shooting told police overnight that the attack at his 49th Street home was unprovoked.

Sgt. Jerri Weary, police spokeswoman, said the shooting at 719 E. 49th St. was reported at 12:30 a.m. today. She said officers found Johnny Tripp, 35, with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and both sides.

Tripp told officers he was sitting on the porch of the home when two acquaintances came up to him, pulled guns and began shooting. Then they got in to a black Chevy Cavalier and drove away.

Tripp was taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown, Weary said.

The only description of the suspects is that they are male, one black and one white, Weary said.
