Chattanooga officer charged with assault after road-rage incident

A Chattanooga police officer has been charged with assault after a road-rage incident over the weekend.

Officer Greg Chambers turned himself in, said police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

Christopher Smith of 5512 Pearl St. in Ooltewah filed a complaint with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office against Chambers, Weary said. According to Smith, Chambers came to his home and pulled a Taser on him Saturday night.

The Internal Affairs Division of the Chattanooga Police Department is conducting an internal investigation into the matter, Weary said, but the investigation will be led by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Chambers has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
