Chattanooga: Snow flurries expected rest of the day

photo Snow falls covering the Signal Mountain High School football practice field early this morning.

Snow will continue to fall in flurries on the Cumberland Plateau and the higher elevations throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn.

Snow has already dusted neighborhoods on Signal Mountain and in other mountainous regions, but no measurements have yet been recorded.

Several roads in East Tennessee are still flooded from two days of rain in McMinn and Bledsoe counties. Bus service is canceled on Highway 28, Mill Dam Road, and Luminary Road in Bledsoe County, dispatchers said.

A rain and snow mix should begin falling in the valley around 8 p.m., and eastern counties could see more snowfall as the evening wears on, meteorologist Kate Guillet said.

Precipitation should clear out of the Chattanooga area tomorrow morning, though it will be cold, Guillet said. Temperatures are not expected to reach past the 40s.

Tennessee Highway Patrol and Georgia State Patrol reported clear highways this morning.
