Nicholas Thompson made it look pretty easy out there today.
Thompson owns the lead after shooting a 9-under 63 in the first round of the Children's Hospital Classic.
He made nine birdies and no bogeys. The older brother of Alexis Thompson save par from the hazard on his last hole by flopping a shot to within three feet.
The sun has dipped behind the mountain which means it gets dark and cold pretty fast around here. There will probably a group or two on each side when officials declare it dark.
So much for updates in the plural sense.
We've been out on the course and away from the media center since the original post.
And it's been an entertaining wave of golf.
Doug Barron, Justin Bolli, and Brice Garnett are leaders in the clubhouse at 7 under. Barron, who is playing on a sponsor's exemption, is approaching this as his tour championship since he has no dates between now and Q-school.
It was not a good morning for the local favorites.
Luke List and Harris English each shot 2 over. English birdied his last hole (No. 9) and List bogeyed his final hole (No. 18).
Chattanooga's Andrew Black had a great round going. Starting on the back, he played the first 13 holes at 5 under.
Then he hit a drive on No. 6 out of bounds left. He did it again. And a third time too. The final result was a 6-over 11 on the hole one.
He rallied with a birdie on No. 8
The afternoon wave is playing now.
What a beautiful morning to play golf.
Participants in the Children's Hospital Classic are sure taking advantage of perfect conditions and fresh greens.
Birdies falling are faster than the temperature is rising at Black Creek Club.
Doug Barron, who received a sponsor's exemption, and Patrick Sheehan are each 5 under through 10 holes after starting on No. 1.
Local star Luke List is 1 under through six, and former Baylor star Harris English is 2 over through seven holes after starting on the back nine.
