A 22-year-old man claims he was robbed this morning by a group of males who "kicked, punch and beat him down to the ground," according to police.

The assault was interrupted when Casey came back to the car. The suspects were able to get away with Pellom's wallet.

Paul Cody Pellom went to Erlanger hospital were he was treated and released for cuts and bruises after the assault, said Chattanooga police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.

Pellom told police that he and a friend, Steve Casey, were sitting in Pellom's car at 700 E. Fifth Street when a rock shattered one of the windows. Casey got out and chased the alleged suspect, while Pellom got out to inspect the damage to his car, Weary said.

Pellom said he was suddenly surrounded by a group of black males that kicked, punch and beat him down to the ground, Weary said. The assault stopped when Casey came back to the car, she said, but the suspects got away with Pellom's wallet.

Casey was not injured.

Investigators are working with police at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to establish leads in the case but have not made any arrests.
