Ringgold man arrested for attempted hit and run in 4-car pileup

A Ringgold man has been arrested on multiple charges after being accused of leaving the scene of a three-car pileup and smashing into another car on Interstate 75.

David Chandler, 32, was charged with three counts of failing to report an accident resulting in injury, three counts of failing to stop or return to an accident, three counts of weaving and a DUI, arrest reports show.

Chandler is accused of causing an accident on I-75 near the Battlefield Parkway exit on Aug. 6 about 10:15 p.m., said Georgia State Patrol Sgt. John Burnette. As he tried to flee the scene, Chandler smashed into the back of another car, then swerved away, hitting a guard rail, Burnette said.

"He tried to leave the scene and hit more people in the process," said Burnette, the post commander of the Dalton region.

Chandler was arrested at his Ringgold home on Thursday and booked in Catoosa County Jail, reports show.

All three of the other drivers complained of injuries but nothing serious, Burnette said.
