Georgia pair arrested, charged with stealing car, leading high-speed pursuit

A man and woman remain in a Walker County, Ga., detention facility after being accused of stealing a car and trying to elude law enforcement.

Authorities say Kenneth Martin Anderson III, 20, of Fort Oglethorpe and Julie Abigail Manis, 19, of Ringgold were arrested Saturday after they jumped from a stolen 2009 Nissan Sentra near Lytle Bridge, according to a Walker County Sheriff's Office news release.

Walker County sheriff's deputies and Georgia State Patrol troopers used a canine to track the pair to a field off Lytle Road, where they were arrested, the release said.

Anderson faces charges of felony theft by taking a motor vehicle, fleeing attempting to elude an officer, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving on divided highways, obstruction of officers, speeding 80 mph in a 50-mph zone, driving without insurance and noise violations, the release said.

Manis faces charges of felony theft by taking and obstruction of officers, according to the release.

The incident began after a Rossville woman reported that her car was stolen from her home.
