VW sells first Passat in Chattanooga

A Chattanooga woman today became the first motorist in the Chattanooga area to drive away with a new Chattanooga-made Passat.

Ellen Hays, who lives in downtown Chattanooga, picked up a black Passat from Village Volkswagen of Chattanooga this morning.

Volkswagen of America, which began making its U.S. version of the Passat at its new $1 billion Chattanooga factory in April, has started to sell its only U.S.-made vehicle this month.

The first Passat was sold to a San Jose car buyer last week.

The Chattanooga plant is slated to produce 150,000 vehicles a year.
