Lake Winnepesaukah is more than 85 years old, but it's still keeping up with the times by putting a new spin on family fun when the park opens this year on April 6. For the first time the amusement park will be incorporating smartphones into an in-park scavenger hunt for people of all ages.

"We're ready for our most exciting season ever," park Public Relations Director Talley Green said. "There's no better way to kick things off than to have one lucky family win a pass to summer fun all season long."

Generations have timeless memories of the wooden Cannon Ball roller coaster, 1927-built boat chute and crowd-favorite carousel, but this year Lake Winnie wanted to add a new interactive element while giving park guests an opportunity to experience all their favorite attractions.

"We have so many people ask about seasonal passes so we designed the scavenger hunt to act as a program for the family," Green said. "We envision them working together going from clue to clue."

Each clue is designed to take participants to a different attraction or location where their next step is revealed. Green said that once the hunt is completed park guests will be entered to win the grand prize; a variety of prizes will be given out daily.

"We had the idea, tested it and made it work. It's going to be a fun activity for guests during the entire month of April," Green said.

She added that Lake Winnie will release an announcement of a new surprise in late spring, which has many positing on Facebook that it will be a new ride in the amusement park. Green is keeping quiet on the subject for now, and wouldn't give any details on the surprise announcement.

"The only thing I can tell you is it's a big surprise. How's that for vague?" she said.
