Nearly 200 soldiers from a local Tennessee Army National Guard unit will leave Thursday to begin a one-year deployment to Kuwait.

The soldiers are with the 1st Battalion, 181st Field Artillery unit.

A going-away ceremony is scheduled for soldiers' family and friends on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Holtzclaw Avenue Guard armory.

Soldiers depart by bus for Camp Shelby, Miss. at 9 a.m. Thursday.

This is the second overseas deployment for the battalion. The unit deployed to Iraq in 2007 for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
